报告题目】: Theory of Generalized Landau Levels and Geometric Stability of Fractional Chern Insulators

【报告摘要】The past few years have witnessed the rapid development of realizing the fractional Chern insulators (FCIs) in Chern bands of moiré materials at zero magnetic field. One of the most important questions in this field is to compare Chern bands with Landau levels (LLs), which would enable us to use the rich experience in LLs to predict and understand the correlated states in Chern bands. In this talk, I will investigate the similarity and difference between Chern bands and LLs from the aspect of quantum geometry. By introducing a new concept called generalized Landau levels, we extend the conventional LLs to accommodate non-uniform quantum geometries while preserving certain geometric invariants. These generalized LLs allow for a systematic discussion of the stability of FCIs with respect to the quantum geometry of Chern bands, which depends on both the geometric invariant and uniformness of quantum geometry. In particular, by employing large-scale exact diagonalization in the generalized LL basis, we proposed a general single-particle geometric criterion for the non-Abelian Moore-Read states. Our results will provide useful guidance for material engineering and searching for various FCIs in moiré materials.

报告人简介】:刘钊,浙江大学物理学院长聘副教授、博士生导师。2007年于南京大学获得学士学位;2012年于中国科学院物理研究所获得博士学位;2012-2018年先后在北京计算科学研究中心、美国普林斯顿大学、德国柏林自由大学从事博士后工作;20189月入职浙江大学。他长期从事与拓扑物态相关的研究,包括分数量子霍尔效应、分数陈绝缘体、拓扑物态的非平衡动力学等;在Physical Review LettersPhysical Review XPhysical Review B等学术期刊发表论文40余篇,并受邀撰写了分数陈绝缘体方面的综述和图书章节。
