【报告摘要】:In this talk, I will present a theoretical investigation of the optical response and Faraday rotation in monolayer Pt2HgSe3(jacutingaite). The contents of this talk include four main aspects:(i)we demonstrate how external electric fields and off-resonance circularly polarized laser irradiation drive the system through a sequence of topological phase transitions, including quantum spin Hall insulator, valley-spin-polarized metal, spin-polarized metal, photo-induced quantum Hall insulator, anomalous quantum Hall insulator, and band insulator phases;(ii)we calculate the spin-valley resolved longitudinal and Hall conductivities using the Kubo formula, revealing their strong dependence on the underlying topological state as a function of photon energy;(iii)we predict a substantial spin- and valley-polarized Faraday rotation of approximately ±1.4° arising from laser-induced time-reversal symmetry breaking, even in the absence of an external magnetic field; and(iv)we establish Faraday rotation as a powerful and direct optical technique for measuring topological invariants and detecting topological phase transitions in two-dimensional materials.
【报告人简介】:Muzamil Shah received his M.Sc and M.Phil degrees from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan, in 2010 and 2012, respectively. Later on, he completed his Ph.D in 2021 from the department of physics, LUMS. The applied areas of his research include quantum transport, Faraday and Kerr rotation, Goos-Hanchen and Imbert-Fedorov shifts. Dr. Muzamil Shah is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the department of physics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan.
